SWIM tried 30mg methadone one day, and then 20mg the next day. That second day, while SWIM was quite high, he noticed that he had trouble trying to urinate. SWIM shrugged it off and thought that it wouldn't bother him once the high was over. A few hours later, once SWIM had sobered up quite a bit, he was still unable to pee. He used all his abdomen muscles and still - nothing. SWIM began to panic a little, and he read online about urine retention being a serious issue that could cause kidney failure. SWIM was able to get a little out later that night, but the next morning he was still having trouble. SWIM decided to go to the Med Center to see what was up. The doctor examined his urine and said that there was some bacteria in it, which indicated that it might have been a Urinary Tract Infection but not a full-blown one. He advised that SWIM drink lots of water each day, and that helped a lot. Staying off the methadone also helped. The day after seeing the doctor, SWIM decided to try 25mg in hopes that it was only the UTI that caused the difficulty urinating, but unfortunately the trouble came back. Also, SWIM let his friend try 10mg of the methadone, and SWIM's friend experienced trouble trying to urinate, as well.

As of right now, SWIM thinks he's going to get rid of all his methadone due to this problem. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent this side-effect?? SWIM quite enjoys the high, but doesn't want to encounter this again. Any suggestions???

I am bumping this thread to encourage replies/discussion. SWIM used to have trouble urinating and had UTI's whilst on methadone, however she is sure her low water-consumption was a huge a factor in this.

The trouble that methadone causes for the bladder and bowels is worthy of discussion. I mean, how fucking hard is it to poop! Matey SWIM is cringing at the memories. Urine infections and piles are common complaints from methadone users. Remember to drink lots of water and have a diet high in fibre if using methadone!

    AW: Methadone + Difficulty Urinating

Having trouble to urinate seems to be a widespread issue connected to methadone use (and abuse). I have often heard this and from many people, the Wolf also told me there were people of his self-support group suffering from problems to pee. The Wolf never had issues in this way...
The Wolf's gf once had these and regained control over her bladder by training it, she drank big quantities of fluid and tried to "handle" it by waiting extreme long times, including a 2 hour regimen even by night.
She succeded after a training time of one month.

This may not be reproducaable by other people, it's just what the Wolf told me.

this has been a big issue with swim in the past as well. more particularly with oxycodone. a few times it had gotten to a point where swim was afraid because he really had to pee and couldn't. swim see's that swiy is a he, this always works for swim. take a shower, and put the water on hot. cup swiyour hands around swiys dick and let it fill up with the warm water, this usually works for swim. not pretty but desperate times call for desperate measures. listening to the water faucet run is another thing that works for swim, and is less drastic than peeing in the shower.

While not specificly about methdaone and urinatng, these threads are about difficulty peeing on opaites:

This is very common (swim thought he was the only one!). Opiates relax the muscles of the blader, making it hard to pee. Turning the faucet on, taking a warm shower/bath, sitting on the toilet all help but sometimes it just won't come out. Swim once took a shit ton of morphine and didn't piss for two days! OMG, it was painful. He felt sore in his blader for days after.

yeah urinary retention is a problem with most all opiates for many people, just go pee before hand that seems to work the best. taking a warm shower/bath as movingpictures said can work very well. usually just sitting on the toilet is enough for swim

Yes, trouble urinating is probably without a doubt THE most common side-effect from ALL opiates/opioids.. it seems to be pretty much unavoidable. Patience is needed here, since swim sometimes has to spend up to 30 minutes in the bathroom before he can squeeze some out..

But of course, there are some tricks that usually helps quite alot..
sitting down, like someone mentioned is one..doing this in combination with having one hand under cold or hot water running from the tap while massageing the bladder and switching between relaxing and "pushing" can help. Also, when swiy is sitting down and doing said massageing, leaning forward as much as possible can sometimes help aswell.

If this wont work, take of swiys clothes and sit down in the bathtub in a squatting position while rocking swiys body as if in a rocking chair while spraying water on your genitals almost always works very well for swim. Sure, it may seem a bit humiliating position to be in... but this is the life swim & swine has chosen and also, people gotta pee!!
