Well, I have started the tedious process of trying other species of Mitragyna, since the genus might hold some other gems and no one else seems to be posting results. Some may remember Mellow Gold, which was the first import of purported Kratom leaf, though it was later found to be misidentified and tentatively reidentified as M. parvifolia. I had acquired a known sample of M. parvifolia while back from a reputable vendor, and finally got around to trying it recently.Note that I have a tolerance to kratom and probably reacted less than someone without tolerance. SWIM ingested 4.5 g in gelcaps if ground leaf on an empty stomach. 30 min post-ingestion, I started to feel a shift in perception and some stimulation. This was accompanied by tingling of the skin, a mild sense of apprehension, and a bit of dizziness which occasionally came on in short waves. There was no narcotic effect noted, though the stimulation was similar to that of M. speciosa. 60min - I got the same kind of energy created by kratom and took care of several chores around the house. I started the day tired and was feeling very energetic and clear-headed by the time the effects peaked, and at the same time the tingling of the skin became stronger and a warming sensation of the body was perceptible. The effect was a little like that of a low dose of yohimbe, but with a cleaner stimulant effect (I feel horrible on Yohimbe, btw). Still no narcotic effects were noted. 90min - I was a bit more cloudy-headed and spaced out, but still energetic. The main effects had peaked and I was a little less stimulated. I was somewhat dizzy at this point as well, with very mild deficits in balance while turning or making akward movements. The effects slowly dropped off over the next 2 hours, and were imperceptible by 4hrs post. SWIM's assessment overall is that this plant is moving closer to yohimbine and has no notable narcotic effects at this dose. This is not surprising given that it has no mitragynine or other derivitives known to bind to the mu receptor. I will undergo a second trial at 7.5g, and then a trial with an extract. Hopefully I will get a stronger stimulant effect. This could be useful since the motivating effect of kratom could be separated from the narcotic effect with this plant. This could allow for less dependence on mitragynine, and could be chosen for tedious tasks when energy is needed. M. speciosa could then be used for more narcotic purposes.
