Swim missed a hit. He registered and it didn't hurt while injecting(he went slow) but burned afterward plus he got no rush. He did a rather large hit(out of a stash that has been good to him) so this was the first sign. A couple hours later he notices his arm hurt and there was a slight bump, more of a general swelling. He used new needles which are longer than he is used to plus brand new so very sharp and he must have went through the vein deep into the muscle. He thinks he must have injected alot deep into his muscle.. So his question is ...
Is it possible to get an abcess deep inthe muscle tissue of the arm with no obvious symptoms of it showing on the skin, aside from slight swelling and pain? Or.. Will it mostly get absorbed he has heard many people do this purposfully? he doesn't cook his stuff, it's the kind of powder found on the east coast.

AW: Muscle shot very slight lump?

It really depends on the Immune-System,
sometimes the Body can handle that, sometimes not.

Keep it Cool and be careful, maybe buy some Heparin-Creme in the Pharmacy!

A standard U-50 or U-100 insulin syringe does not have a long enough needle to penetrate well into the muscle. In all likelihood, SWIY either pierced or grazed the vein rather than entered it. This can often cause blood to register at first and give one the impression of being 'on' when one actually is not. Another possibility is that the vein was entered, but not completely. Once the plunger was pulled back, a small amount of blood registered before the needle was subsequently pulled out of the vein. Thus resulting in a miss.

As far as abscess. A 'miss' will fade and become less and less painful over a 24 hour period. If the area continues to swell, dramatically reddens or darkens, or becomes hot to the touch; or if fever and/or nausea set in, seek immediate medical attention.

NOTE: By placing the pinkie finger between the skin and the base of the syringe tube(fingernail touching the skin) to form a wedge before pulling back the plunger will help prevent the needle from exiting the vein prematurely.

Not sure what insulin needles swiy has used but unless swim gets the short tips the normal lengths ones **"CAN"** very well go deep into a muscle. It is about an inch long and for swim being a skinny heroin addict this is long enough to easily hit bone. The short tips are much better for heroin use but the pharmacy techs for some reason like passing off these butcher knives (long tips) instead :,(
