Does non-alcoholic beer still contain a little bit of alcohol or is it completely alcohol free? I have heard from more than one person it contains a small amount of alcohol but much less than a normal beer.

Some brands contain up to about .5% alcohol by weight - compared to around 4 - 5% for your average American swill. All the "non-alcoholic" beers I've seen contain a trace amount.

People who consider "non alcoholic" beer as "Beer" are like people who consider tofu burgers a legitimate substitute for hamburger.

I thought average American swill was as low as 3% vol. i.e. Bud, Coors, etc.

In some states in the USA, most beer is what is called three two. This being no more than 3.2% alcohol. You have to find imports if you want more than that amount of kick. It truly is swill. Try serving that to a German or Irish guest! Other than the 3-2 states, the average is 4 - 5%.

Thanks for jogging my memory of the shock and horror I had when I first bought some beer in South Dakota.

In spain we have non-alcohol beer which always have a trace amount of alcohol < 1% but there is a brand that makes a beer called 0.0 which is claimed to have no alcohol at all. In the tv ad you can see doctors drinking it while doing surgery and also pregnant woman drinking it while swimming.
