SWIM injected a black tar/saline solution, and instead of the normal rush, he felt no rush. but instead his hand went numb. he injected about 2 inches down the side of the wrist from where the wrist joint is. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Swim has had this happen to them before, but it usually wears off after a few days with no lasting effects. Even though swim still got the rush from there IV.

SWIY must have injected into an artery instead of a vein. This has happened to SWIM before. When one injects into an artery, the heroin solution has to travel through all of the skin tissues and tiny capillaries distributing oxygen to the various tissues of the skin in that area. By the time the heroin solution returns to the heart and is pumped to the brain, most of the heroin solution has been separated and diluted thus not giving a rush to the user.

SWIY must make sure injection is into a vein. Veins are the blood pathways back toward the heart in order to pick up nutrients, oxygen, and other various things then pumped hard to disstribute throughout the body. Arteries are the blood pathways from the heart all ready full of things to be distributed.

Damage to arteries is very bad and can lead to many complications. Easy ways to identify the difference -
    Veins -
    1. Bluish in color.
    2. Raise up when "tied off".
    3. Do NOT have a pulse.
    Arteries -
    1. Dark Redish in color.
    2. Usually on the under-side of limbs.
    3. Have a distinct pulse.

If swiy had injected into an artery then swiy would have known immediately as the excruciating pain that it causes would have caused swiy to remove the needle straight away, also artery blood is bright red in colour and the blood colour one needs is dark red that meens one has hit a vein.

Its happened twice now. And both time the injection site was about the same area. And neither time was there any noticable good effects to come. Im just going to avoid the spot.

If SWIY hit an artery, he would have know it immediately.

did the vein collapse? That could cause numbness on top of the skin

It might be that you've injected in or very near one of the small nerves in the arm as this makes your arm go numb.

Yep, you went through a nerve, do you feel any kind of "shock" when you extend your wrist quickly? SWIM has done this before, in a different spot, and it sounds like the same thing. Youir feelong will come back, but for chrissake stop shooting there, you are only LUCKY you havent hit the artery thats wound with the vein youve been hitting and believe me you dont want that, esp. w/ tar.

You probably hit the radial nerve, which is on the thumb side of the wrist. Hitting a nerve isn't a fun experience at all.

SWIM had a similar experience. They believe they completely missed using a very long needle. In doing so they also believe they hit a nerve as their hand went numb almost instantly. It has been almost 3 days and their wrist is swollen, black and blue, raised skin, extremely sore and wrapped in an ace bandage. SWIM can't even pickup their laptop with that hand. They are worried this problem might escalate and want to know what to do about it ?
