I have been using (mainly snorting) oxycodone (OxyContin) for a couple of years now. Recently there has been a decline of availability of OxyContin in SWIM's, and many doctors who previously prescribed OxyContin have stopped and begun to prescribe oxymorphone (Opana) -- 40mg in place of 80mg oxycodone, which I understand to be an equivalent dose.

I have not yet purchased or acquired any Opana as I am preferring to stick with the favorite, OxyContin.

    SWIM's question is--
How are the actual effects of Opana(oxymorphone) in comparison to OxyContin(oxycodone)?
In this case, it is Opana ER, so I would be planning on crushing them and most likely snorting them.

Is the high similar to OxyContin? Is there a rush? Euphoria?
Is it something closer to Fentanyl or Morphine? Methadone? Hydrocodone?

I will likely eventually pick some up and try it out for him/herself but would really like to hear some of you's opinions and thoughts on oxymorphone first before spending money.

SWIM also felt the decline in availability of OC's.:( Lately I have been snorting alot of opana's. Both extended release and rapid release. It doesn't make much of a difference, You just needs to suck the coating off the ER's.

It's true, they are about twice as strong as oxycontin but the high is quite different. SWIM enjoys them though.

They also tend to be a lot cheaper on the streets than OC's around here as well.

Oxymorphone would be more like a morphine/heroin sedated high, whereas oxycodone is more like a codieine euphoric and contentment kind of high.

Swim usually takes 3 ,10mg IR Opanas and feels VERY comfortable.He/she also takes 180mg of Avinza with that current dose so that also boosts the feeling.

I used to take around 80 mg's of oxycodone per day and liked it now SWIM can only get a hold of Opanas the 5 mg IR and The 20 mg ER and SWIM still prefers the oxycodone.

Do you mean that in you's area it's pretty easy to get a prescription?
For a while it was absurdly easy and rampant in SWIM's area, but it seems to have cracked down heavily.

opi8 added 2 Minutes and 54 Seconds later...

Ah, that makes sense. Are the effects similar at all to Fentanyl? or maybe Methadone?
Also, I have not yet acquired any Opana -- what are the binders like? Are they similar to brand name OC? or the generics (oblong) that paste up? Is the consistency more like a roxi?
And does anyone know any stories of people with IV experience as far as Opana?

Ok, lets start: Oxycodone and Oxymorphone are NOT comparable just because they both have "oxy" at the beginning.

For Swim, hydrocodone is energetic and euphoric, with little physical sedation. HydroMORPHONE is body heavy, dreamy, and very sedating.

    ALL OPIOIDS HAVE DIFFERENT EFFECTS.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "EQUIVALENT" dosages! Body chemisty is very different in everyone! An "equivalent" dosage for one person could cause another to OD.

If Swim ever took what people told him their dosages were, he would OD just about every time.

    Sums up what I'm saying.

OP: 40mg oxymorphone is ONLY ONLY ONLY equal to 80mg oxycodone when TAKEN ORALLY. It Is TWICE if not more stronger when snorted!!! BE CAREFUL!

it`s true that a certain percentage of oxycodone is metabolized into oxymorphone...just as hydrocodone is metabolized into hydromorphone....

but the drugs oxycodone and hydrocodone are active themselves.

Just to further qualify, according to opiate equivilancy tables, 40mg oxymorphone injected roughly equals 800 mg oxycodone. NO, that is not a typo. 40mg OPANA taken IV/IM/SC=800mg oxycodone. Hospitals give 1mg oxymorphone parentally (injected) for pain. Injecting the 10mg OPANA IR is like taking 200mg oxycodone, BE CAREFUL with OPANA!!
I only care about harm reduction

dude this needs to put in bold on every net opiate forum

opana's are the best opiate drug I has found bar none even compared to heroin I would choose the opana any day but this is so true. Oxymorphone injected is so stupid...you need to so little to get high and just a little over board and its lights out.. dont F around kids

My pit bull Mookie has experimented with oxycodone (insufflated and oral) and oxymorphone (insufflated only). Mookie says that oxymorphone is more sedating than oxycodone, with a more pronounced euphoria and body rush. Oxycodone is more stimulating and sociable: Mookie, who is also a long-time stoner, compares it to the experience of smoking a nice Sativa vs. oxymorphone's Indica buzz. Mookie also notes that oxycodone doesn't have the legs of oxymorphone: he stays high much longer off Opana than Oxycontin.

Rooster had been daily user of oxycontin, snorting anywhere from 180mg to 300mg daily.... due to decline in availability as well, rooster started using opana 40mg... same way... just have to get the coating off first (unless its the pink 10's)... rooster loves opanas... body buzz of morphine and head buzz/ nods of oxycontin... even as a habitual user of high tolerance.. 1 40mg opana knocked rooster on his tailfeather! Rooster prefers the IR 10mg, pink if they are name-brand, white if they are generic... rooster says that 2 or 3 of those is about comprable to 1- 80mg oxycontin.... rooster adds... as stated before.. BE CAREFUL with opana... roosters friend has a chronic pain condition.... perscribed 80mg oxycontin 4x per day in addition to perocets, soma, lyrica... roosters friend has an extreme tolerance to pain meds and when switched to opana 40mg 2x per day... roosters friend was non-functioning! nodding off in public and the such... so though they are enjoyable rooster reccomends be careful and with this, less is more!

I have also been experimenting with Opanas since Oxycontin is no longer. From SWIM's experience, they are fun to snort. Very strong and does the trick. I used to snort 160Mg of oxycontin a day and can now sustain on one 40mg Opana. All You has to do is wipe the coating off then crush. These are hardcore pills though, the next day will cause one's tummy to be in a knot.
I also wanted to bring up because nobody has in this thread yet, smoking Opana. I like to occasionally smoke them. They are different than smoking Oxys though. Instead of putting the whole pill on a foil You has to crush it and then put it on the foil. VERY strong if you smoke a whole Opana 40.

You need to be EXTREMELY cautious when injecting Opana. A guy came into the agency I do my placement at, he had just injected what he said was 1/5th of a 40mg Opana. He was clearly overdosing, and was an avid oxycodone user.

The ER's also contain silica which is extremely dangerous to inject yourself with. If you must inject, you may want to consider a subcutaneous injection and see how it feels.

SWIM totally agrees that IV/IM use of Opana should be avoided due to the relative strength of this opiate versus IV/IM use of other common opiates. As previously mentioned in this thread...common ER IV dose is 1mg which is the rough equivalent of 20mg IV/IM oxycodone. Be super careful with this stuff.

Why "at this point" is there no reason not to have a prescription? I'm finding them pretty hard to come by. I have pain but is chronic and neuropathic, so they say they don't like to give opiates for these cases.

Great thread. I was curious what is thought of oxymorphone vs. oxycodone withdrawal. I've been on oxymorphone for the last 2 years, and before that oxycodone.

Withdrawals from oxycodone was horrible. Really intense body aches, intense restless leg syndrome (RLS) and insomnia lasting ~5-7 days.

Oxymorphone withdrawal is less intense and very different for me. Intense hunger pains (very severe), frequent urination, and insomnia lasting ~3 days. Only mild body aches and no RLS.

I have taken in to account dosage. I strictly stick to oxymorphone over oxycodone out of fear of oxycodone withdrawal.
