Don't shoot up. Meth, Coke, Tar, Demerol and various other chemical irritate the veins, causing them to collapse.

Never shoot in the same place, move around, until the other site heals. Always use a new needle if possible. Pulling back (jacking off) the needle can cause suction and the vein to stick together and collapse.

Best not to shoot Meth, it is very irritating to the veins, Leo says. But if one must, use new rigs, and shoot somewhere different every time and don't jack off (it's a myth), it does nothing but put suction (negative pressure) in the vein. Just see if it registers, then proceed. Don't pull out again and again. One could check the pH of his product, but nobody Leo knows ever did. The more acidic the meth, the better chance the vein will collapse.

When Leo has an operation, they have to go in his neck for the intravenous catheter. They can draw blood out of his hand. Believe Leo, one doesn't want to go there. Later in life, it makes medical treatment very difficult.

swim had a feeling a "dont shoot up" was going to get posted lol, swim does appreciate that you gave him some helpful advice along with it and not jus bein a dick like some people feel the need to be on here.

and pulling back the plunger jus enough to make sure ur in the vein can cause it to collapse? or are you talking about when people "flush" and sit there and fill the syringe with blood and inject it back in a couple times to get the little amount that stayed in the barrel, or can even barley drawing back to make sure your in can collapse it to?

Many heroin addicts, pull the plunger back, push in, pull back and push in. It's called "Jackin' off". They have another name for it, Leo can't remember right now.

The main thing is, Leo's friend who is 37 has already collapsed most of his veins after 10 years. Doing Tar, meth and coke. He shoots pharmaceutical drugs also. One being methadone pills. They have talc in them, anything with talc can build up and cause a stroke. Leo really worries about him.

Leo's been shooting for 38 years. Leo I.M.'s now. One doesn't get a rush, but one gets the bioavailability. Leo doesn't even I.M. anymore, Leo's on Suboxone. Leo I.M.ed tar, meth, methadone, morphine, Dilaudid, etc. Dull needles. Bad news. When Leo had veins, he I.V.ed everything, except Morphine (pins and needles). Leo loves to I.M. some Lilly 30ml bottle, 15mg/ml morphine. Leo has only got abscesses from Tar, however between '83 and '91 he was into meth, and that's what did it. Some peoples veins never collapse, some people have thin veins that collapse easily.

All Leo is saying is, if one wants to lose all their veins, then shoot up. However, if one wants to save thier veins: use new needles everytime and hit in a different spot. Just not doing it, is the best thing to do.

When one has a rig full of whatever, alcohol swab where ones going to shoot, register (just pull back a little), when one knows they are in, push it in slowly.

Leo f*cked up, when one's an opiate addict, heroin, one can't wait cause your sick, so proper injection procedure was thrown out the window.

Leo doesn't know how old your friend is, but if Leo could do it all over again, he would have never got into I.V. drugs, big mistake if one lives after 50.

Yeah "flushing" is what they call "jackin off" around here. Swims shooting habit sounds similar to Leo's, He'll use the same rig so many times that the plunger will get stuck in the barrell, and he will hit the same spot numerous times, he never filters anything he shoots either.

Tell your friend to filter it. That's what Leo's 37 year old friend did also. He never filtered or heated his tar. He filters his pharmaceuticals. Leo helped him get clean. However, who knows how long that will last.

Here where Leo lives, we can buy boxes of rigs. One use to be able to get single ones. Better to spend money on 100 new syringes, than burn ones veins out. They are going to be very important in later life. Leo didn't think he would live to see 40, now Leo is 54. However, Leo in the best health of his life. Beware of Hep C. Very easy to get when sharing. Bleach doesn't kill the virus, like HIV. It is a very hardy virus. A buddy of Leo's is dying of Liver Cancer as Leo writes this. David Crosby has had two liver transplants.

Leo has tried to self-destruct, but it seems impossible. So Leo has decided to get right, and just do medications he must take, as prescribed. No more needles. Think about it, your friend doesn't want a stroke and put in a home. A lot of homes treat the patient's like crap. Your friend doesn't want Endocarditis either. Something bad can happen, with your friends shooting habits. Ponder it. That's all Leo can say, your friend has to do the work. When one is face to face with Death, usually one chooses Life.

There are a few things you can practice everytime to prolong the life of your veins.

_always use a tournaquet, it expands the skin making an effectively smaller puncture and makes veins far more visible.
_always swab the injection site with a swab. you wouldn't believe the microbes/micro-organisms living on your skin.
_if you have nothing else, cotton wool will do. best to use a "steri-fit" filter-filters down to 30microns. the actual size if a virus is smaller than the diameter of human hair.
_when breaking surface of skin, always have angled side of needle facing up. this minimises teariong of skin

Main reason of vein collapse is lipohobic properties of drugs itself.Meth, coce, amphetamine are highly lipohobic and that mean is not soluble in surounding tissue or fat. Solution hardner the vein inside and its very irritating to vein itself esp the walls of vein.If vein is missed, drug can stay a long time because of this property, its not absorbed fast like lipophylic drugs.
Ph value has nothing to do with corrosive poroperites to your veins, these kind of drugs are corrosive itself. Talc and other bidents is not main reason.

The advice given so far has been excellent harm reduction / safer injecting advice. I would like to point out, however, that from your original post, it doesn't sound like your friend is losing veins at the moment, it sounds like he is simply experiencing the extreme vasoconstriction caused by shooting stimulants, which seem to make one's veins run and hide for cover pretty fast.

My primate experiences this all the time when he shoots stimulants, where until he rests, sleeps, eats, and exercises, it seems all of his veins have shriveled up and are in hiding.

The time-old methods of taking a hot shower, eating a small snack, and doing a few sets of push-ups right before attempting an injection have always greatly increased the ease for my primate and his abilities.

Best of luck you to and your friend

SWIM noticed the same thing happening to his veins when he shot methylphenidate (dumbest thing ever unless its made fore injection). Now SWIM has fat veins all over his arms, and a couple good ones on his ankles and feet that dont even require a tournequitte (although he uses one anyways) and what he found was that after shooting maybe 5 6 times in the same vein, even if you rotate, the vein doesnt collapse, but constricts.

SWIM has not shot methylphenidate since that one binge of hundreds of pills and all his veins are fine and dandy a year later (no scars or anything).

One thing I will tell you is ALWAYS filter your shit even if its supposed to be relatively pure meth, but especially if they are pills containing talc. People have had to have lung transplants because the cuts (especially talc) accumulates and deposits around the lungs and heart cuasing extensive permanent damage. If one of those cuts comes loose from wherever its been deposited and its big enough you could have a stroke and die.

As for getting veins up that are constricted; work out really hard for 10 20 minutes and hydrate and they will pop right up.

    Be safe

Lump flatted out but pain and swelling is still there after only a few hours of slamming I'm sure this is normal just want to know what could be done now and how long to wait before seeing improvement or if its worse then a miss there was no burning or pain durring injection only seconds after along with the lump

curious cat added 1 Minutes and 17 Seconds later...
