Little Monkey's good friend Hopalong has just had an operation on his knee; not major surgery but guess all surgery is bad enough. Hopalong is on a fair cocktail of painkillers and in not inconsiderable pain and just contacted Little Monkey through the jungle drums asking if its ok to smoke meth in such a situation.

The fact that Hopalong already has smoked some tonight and is freaking out a bit kind of makes the whole exercise of asking a bit pointless; but basically anyone know of anything weird that friend should look out for?

Little Monkey is off on a mercy run to support Hopalong through his freakout and would appreicate any feedback.

Please speak plainly. There is no longer a self incrimination rule outside the drug creation forums and this is just silly sounding.

Well smoking meth eats up the body's energy that should be used for healing. You are likely to delay your healing time, potentially opening yourself up to infection. You need rest and sleep, not stimulants.

Well, it causes major vasoconstriction, which impedes blood flow, especially at the tissue level, which is where blood flow needs to be good to promote healing. At the very least, meth use will delay healing. At worst, it could possibly cause dehiscence, or opening of the wound. I would try to stay off for a week at the very least.

Not saying that you should, but I had an operation to remove a bloodclot while under the influence and surgery went fine. My healing was even better. Meth didn't seem to have any effect on the situation. But, I guess that is just a risk you would be willing to take.

Methchick-- you got lucky. They dont even want you to drink water 24hours prior to surgery let alone eat anything just in case you have an adverse reaction to the meds they might give-- But Im glad nothing happened.

On that note: Don't ever pick up the piece, get your rig out or even think about parachuting before surgery folks. Obviously you know this-- but PLEASE DO NOT DO IT.

    and here's why--http://surgery.about.com/od/beforesurgery/qt/CantEatSurgery.htm
