OK...bad English, but it sounds likes SWIY wants to know more about Troparil or Beta-CPT which according to the pharmacology text under consideration here is or was (at time the text was printed) an un-released cocaine-analog explored as a possible treatment to dissuade cocaine use.

Beta-CPT is apparently a Selective Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor (SDRI) but also a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI); which is what the majority Reuptake-Inhibiting anti-depressants are. Cocaine analogues are designed to negative continued stimulant abuse by being derived from cocaine, but being altered enough to decrease the psychoactive (and therefore pleasurable) effects of cocaine. It seems that cocaine analogues, while showing some preliminary promise for use in the treatment of stimulant abuse (similar to methodone for opiate abuse) they are primarily manufactured for physiological effects on the central nervous system in the capacity of anesthesia or inhibition of the voluntary motor functions.

For instance, Novacaine, a common local anesthetic, is derived from cocaine. Cocaine HCL is used a local anesthetic and even the dry poweder that is usually abused can still be used as a topic anesthetic for dermal abrasions.

So, this particular compound, Beta-CPT is not intended to be used as any kind of anesthetic, but it is intended to treat the desire for cocaine consumption...but without providing the psychological 'high'. In Canada at least, it seems that Beta-CPT is neither a drug afforded much concern for abuse by patients or by the underground drug industry as a source of further processing, and is seemingly restricted to neurochemical research, not active treatment or dispensing.

Given that Beta-CPT is not a concern for abuse, its unlikely consumption would provide much, if any, euphoric sensations. Basic rule of thumb is that if the drug in question doesn't promote a pleasurable or euphoric feelings, its likelihood of recreational abuse is nil to nothing.

As was said above Beta-CPT apparently has reuptake inhbiting properties in the serotonin pathway, but primarily the catecholamine pathway (Phenylalanine-->Tyrosine-->Levo Dopa-->Dopamine -->Epinephrines) though it seems that unlike cocaine, whose primary target is Dopamine on the catecholamine pathway, Beta-CPT's target receptor of preference is actual norepinephrine, which is...interesting.

To summarize, Beta-CPT is not a substitute for cocaine. It is not a local anesthetic. And its theoretical neurochemical actions are not those of cocaine, therefore if SWIY was hoping for a cocaine substitute, Beta-CPT appears not to be it.

    Best of Luck,
    -CAN
