    Hey all,

Wow there seem to be a lot of health related questions on this board...I'm gonna add another.... Kick me if it's already been asked ;)

I have been living down in Mexico for a few months, trying to get an internet business off the ground....and been in serious crunch time the past 2 weeks. I have been burning the candle at both ends and smoking this "ICE" stuff they got down here. I think its some form of meth.

Anyways, point is I have been having some serious breathing problems after doing this stuff about 2 days on/2 days off over the last 2 weeks. Coughing, and wheezy breathing, unable to take deep breaths..

Has anyone else experienced this when smoking ice/crystal? Is it super bad for your lungs? Just don't want have an emergency trip to the Mexican hospital!

    thanks!

Yeah, it's super bad for swimmers lungs and hearts and other major organs as well.

It effects the cardiovascular system dramatically. Potential complications include rapid heart rate, irregular heart rate, increased blood pressure, heart attacks (due to constriction of the blood vessels to the heart) and increased platlet aggregation, inflammation of the heart muscle, inflammation of the lining of the heart, and damage to blood vessels anywhere in the body.

Central nervous system complications may include neuron loss and damage, seizures, chronic psychosis, movement disorders, strokes, and spontaneous brain bleeds.

Muscle, kidney and liver damage can occur as a result of elevated body temperature.

Lungs can be affected as well because methamphetamine use can cause pulmonary edema (excess fluid on the lungs), pulmonary hypertension, constriction of the blood vessels in the lungs affecting oxygen exchange, and chronic lung disease.

In short, meth can cause a plethora of serious health problems. Personally, I wouldn't ever touch the stuff. But to each his own. If You is going to use, they should educate themselves on exactly what they're putting into their bodies, its mechanisms of action, and potential adverse, life-altering health consequences.

Yup -- I hear you....I smoked this stuff once before, and swore never to do it again....and sure wont after this week either!

Pulmonary edema...sounds spot on, and scary enough to make swim do some research.

    thanks!

Actually I would like to point out that my friends who smoke cigarettes often face this problem as well if they smoke too much meth.

I do not smoke cigarettes myself, and have never gotten the same problems my friends have with regard to throat issues.

I think smoking both meth and cigarettes may be the cause.

It could also be something other than meth that You is smoking. Sounds worse - I have not smoked meth before but knows of people who have daily for years with no such complaints. Probably cut with something or maybe some of that nasty coca paste they smoke in south america...
I would lay off and just avoid the stuff... sounds poisonous

I would be more afraid of smoking impurity's/adulterants than the meth itself, for the lungs at least.

SWIV doesn't get any of the effects like You from smoking meth. One time he took so many long deep hits over the course of about 15 hours his lungs actually felt sore, the type of sore you get in your muscles after you work out for to long. SWIV thought he damaged his lungs at first, then he figured out he just used his lung muscles so much they were sore :crazy

Anywho, if you are getting such worrisome side effects you should stop immediately as the rule of thumb for anything in life, if it ain't workin out then just put it down and forget it.

SWIV would have to agree with snapper on everything but crazy coca paste theory :)

SWIV lives in CA most of the meth comes right from Mexico.

Take a look at a recipe for cooking up Meth, there are plenty on the internet. If the process is not done by an expert the resulting drug will contain all sorts of nasty substances. In addition there is no way of knowing what has been added to the drug to bulk out for extra profit.

As You admits that they are uncertain as to what "ICE" is exactly, it is doubly difficult to know what further use of this Drug would result in.
One thing is certain ICE is damaging Swiys lungs, these warning signs need to be taken very seriously indeed. Knock it on the head, whilst you still can, is Fishys advice. If ICE is Meth, or a mixture of crap and meth, it is highly addictive.

It wouldn't hurt to have a doctor check you out. Methamphetamine is a stimulant, and a vasoconstrictor. Because of the vasoconstricting properties of meth, side effects generally include muscle tightness and shortness of breath. However, you may also be experiencing pulmonary issues that need to be treated by a doctor, such as pulmonary fibrosis or edema.

I have gotten the same reaction to meth also. My best bet for me is to just stop smoking before it gets worse
