Clonidine Printable Version
Clonidine is a drug that acts as an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, the main effect being lowering blood pressure because it decreases the release of norepinephine and epinephrine (adrenalin). It is prescribed for people with high blood pressure, as well as being the main pharmacological remedy for opioid withdrawal due to its effects on the central nervous system. It helps alleviate some of the physical withdrawal symptoms such as excessive sweating and hot/cold flashes.
