MMAI (5-Methoxy-6-methyl-2-aminoindane) is a non-neurotoxic entactogen which has been sold by several research chemical vendors since 2010.
Introduction to MMAI
Initally synthesised by David E. Nichols at Purdue University in the mid 1990s, MMAI acts as a highly selective serotonin releasing agent and reuptake inhibitor with IC50 values of 212 nM for 5-HT, in turn producing a rue of enactogenic effects while displaying no signs of neurotoxicity. Aside from its drastic psychoactive effects, MMAI has also been shown to relieve stress-induced depression in a more robust manner than that of sertraline.
Using MMAI
Ways of Administration
There is a very limited history involving the consumption of MMAI in humans, far less than that of other research chemicals. As a result of this there is a lack of confirmed information on the best route of administration for this compound, however looking through various discussion is has been collected that oral consumption and insufflation may prove to be the most effective routes of administration, with oral administration being the more preferred route, due most likely to the duration of onset, and the effects as there is a high concentration of 5-HT serotonin receptors which line the walls of the gastrointestinal tract.Effects of MMAI

The Dangers of MMAI
There are several dangers associated with MMAI that should be considered prior to its consumption, these dangers are...
- MMAI is considered to be a research chemical, thus there is limited information on the effects and side effects of the compound due to a lack of formal trials.
- MMAI has a strong releasing effect on serotonin, thus is should not be combined with other serotonergic or MAOIs as there is a risk for serotonin syndrome to occur.
- MMAI is a psychoactive substance, thus user whom have a known mental or physical illness should avoid this compound as it may exacerbate the symptoms.
