Dangers and Risks of of Psychedelic Therapy
Using Psychedelics to help with mental problems or conditions.
Psychedelics are currently being tested in preliminary psychiatry research into various mental conditions. This is done in a medical context guided and controlled by a medical professional with specific goals, proceedures and strategies for avoiding pitfalls in place.
Taking psychedelics may be generally safe for most people, but someone with a mental condition may experience an exacerbation of the mental illness. It is misguided to believe that taking psychedelics in a non-medical setting will improve their condition, and this can be very dangerous. There is a small possibility it could help, but the risks generally far out-weight the potential benefits. It is safest to undergo Psychedelic therapy with the supervision of a licensed medical practitioner.
The risk-reward might be completely skewed negatively. For example, perhaps the chance of a psychedelic helping a condition is 1% while the change to exacerbate is 20%. This is just a made up number, but it's as possible as anything else. No one knows.
