Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRI, which operate by increasing levels of seratonin in the brain. Sertraline is used to treat major depressive, obsessive compulsive (OCD), panic, post traumatic stress, premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and social anxiety disorders. It differs from other antidepressants mostly in side effects, which include diarrhea, nausea, trembling, sexual dysfunction and weight gain. In 2013 it was the most used antidepressant in the United States. The starting dose is 50mg but some people are prescribed up to 200mg. [1]
