Beta-Ketones

Beta-Ketones are a class of drugs that have a carbonyl group in the beta-position, forming a keytone.

Introduction to Beta-Ketones

A ketone is a carbonyl functional group with a bond in both the R and R' position as shown in the image to the right.

Compounds with the ketone group in the beta-position are classified as beta-ketones.
Cathinone forms the backbone of many beta-ketones drugs. The α and β groups are labeled, beginning from the amine (Nitrogen) group.
